Frequently asked questions about cloud and migration.
What is the difference between Microsoft 365 and Azure?
Microsoft 365 is the workplace cloud: e-mail, Office apps, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and the identity of your employees. Azure is the infrastructure cloud on which you run servers, databases and applications. An SME almost always uses Microsoft 365 fully and Azure only for specific workloads, such as a business application that needs a server.
How do I migrate from my own server to the cloud?
In three steps: inventory what is on the server (files, mail, applications, integrations), choose the destination per component (SharePoint and OneDrive for files, Exchange Online for mail, Azure or SaaS for applications, sovereign infrastructure for sensitive data) and move over in phases with a test beforehand and a fallback scenario. The old server stays as a backup until everything is proven to work.
What does a cloud migration cost for an SME?
That depends on the amount of data, the number of applications and integrations, and whether an old server or provider has to be phased out. Qteco quotes the migration after the inventory as a fixed project fee, so you know the cost in advance. Management afterwards is part of the workplace packages from around € 89 per workplace per month, including the Microsoft 365 licences.
Do I need backup for Microsoft 365, or does Microsoft take care of that?
You need your own backup. Microsoft guarantees the availability of the platform, not the retention of your data: a deleted file, a removed mailbox or ransomware encryption through a stolen account is your own responsibility, and the recycle bin is empty after a limited retention period. That is why a daily, independent and immutable backup of Microsoft 365 is standard in every Qteco package.
When do you choose hybrid cloud instead of full cloud?
When something has to stay on site: machines or equipment that need a local server, software that cannot or may not run in the cloud, large datasets that are faster locally, or data that must demonstrably stay under Dutch law. In all other cases full cloud is simpler and cheaper. Hybrid only works well when both parts share the same identity, security and monitoring.
Does my data stay in the Netherlands if I use Microsoft 365?
Microsoft stores data of Dutch tenants in the EU region, but the parent company is American and therefore subject to the CLOUD Act. For mail and collaboration that is acceptable for most organisations. For sensitive data, engineering IP and backups you choose sovereign Dutch infrastructure alongside Microsoft 365.
